Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass
By Lewis Carroll · 1990
Back to CatalogueThis volume prints Lewis Carroll's two Alice books together. In the first, issued in 1865, Alice follows a White Rabbit underground into a dream country of growing and shrinking, a pool of tears, a mad tea-party, croquet with the Queen of Hearts, and a trial. In the second, issued in 1871, she steps through a looking-glass into a chessboard landscape and meets Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty, and the White and Red Queens as she advances from pawn toward queen. Both are comic fantasies in which logic, nursery rhyme, and Victorian manners are turned inside out; there is no single quest beyond Alice's passage through each invented world.
