The Adventures of the Five Children
The Old Testament and the New Testament
By E. Nesbit · 2009
Back to CatalogueThis collection brings together E. Nesbit's three novels about five Edwardian children - Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and the baby - first published from 1902 to 1906: Five Children and It, The Phoenix and the Carpet, and The Story of the Amulet. In a gravel pit they meet the Psammead, a sand-fairy that grants a daily wish that always goes wrong; later a phoenix and a flying carpet, then an Egyptian amulet, move them through time and London. Each book is a complete comic fantasy. The set is the Psammead trilogy, not Nesbit's Bastable stories.
