This set gathers John Buchan's five novels about Richard Hannay: The Thirty-Nine Steps, Greenmantle, Mr Standfast, The Three Hostages, and The Island of Sheep, first published between 1915 and 1936. A mining engineer drawn into spy work, Hannay moves from a London manhunt to wartime missions in Germany, the Middle East, and Scotland, then to later plots involving kidnapping and an old enemy. Recurring allies include Sandy Arbuthnot, Peter Pienaar, and Blenkiron. Each novel is a complete thriller. The collection is Hannay's adventure cycle, not Buchan's historical fiction.
