Synopsis
First published in 1936, this detective novel follows Hercule Poirot as a taunting letter writer announces murders in places whose names begin with successive letters of the alphabet: Andover, Bexhill, and so on. An A.B.C. railway guide is left with each body. Poirot, Hastings, and Inspector Japp work through a list of suspects while a travelling salesman named Alexander Bonaparte Cust moves through the same towns. The book is a serial-murder puzzle in the Poirot series, not a police-procedure study of real crime.
