Surely You'Re Joking

Mr Feynman! Adventures of a Curious Character as Told to Ralph Leighton

By Richard Feynman · 2012

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

This is a first-person collection of anecdotes from the physicist's life, told as spoken stories rather than as a continuous autobiography. Episodes include student years, work at Los Alamos, safes, Brazilian teaching, bongo drums, painting, and encounters with bureaucrats, colleagues, and strangers who underestimate him. The tone is comic and self-presenting: each piece has a punch line about curiosity, stubbornness, or the pleasure of figuring things out. There is no single argument. The book is a memoir in sketches, not a textbook of physics and not a history of the Manhattan Project.
