This set reprints the magazine produced by members of Robert Falcon Scott's Discovery and Terra Nova expeditions in Antarctica between 1902 and 1912. Issues mix scientific notes, comic verse, caricatures, watercolours, and hut news, edited in the field by Ernest Shackleton, then others, and later by Apsley Cherry-Garrard. The accompanying commentary by Ann Savours explains how each number was compiled during the polar night. There is no single narrative. The work is a primary collection of expedition journalism, not a later biography of Scott and not a continuous polar history.
