Solo Recital, the Reminiscences of Michael Kelly
By Michael Kelly · 1972
Back to CatalogueFirst published in 1826, these are the memoirs of the Irish tenor Michael Kelly, who sang in Italy and at Vienna before settling in London as a singer, composer, and theatre manager. Kelly recounts training, travel, and the first production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, in which he created Basilio and Don Curzio, then the rivalries and bills of Drury Lane and the King's Theatre. Composers, singers, and managers appear as working colleagues. The book is a first-person record of late-eighteenth-century operatic life, not a technical singing manual.
