This set gathers three late-nineteenth-century adventure novels set in a largely invented interior Africa. King Solomon's Mines follows the hunter Allan Quatermain, Sir Henry Curtis, and Captain Good as they cross desert and mountains in search of Curtis's brother and a rumored royal mine. Allan Quatermain sends the same companions, with the Zulu warrior Umslopogaas, toward a hidden inland kingdom. She follows the Cambridge scholar Horace Holly and his ward Leo Vincey to a lost city ruled by the immortal Ayesha. The volume is a trio of quest romances, not a travel record of the continent.
