Sharpe's Triumph
Richard Sharpe and the Battle of Assaye, September 1803, in Which Sergeant Richard Sharpe Witnesses a Murderous Act of Treachery and with Sir Arthur Wellesley Faces the Mahratta Horde
By Bernard Cornwell · 2021
Back to CatalogueThis novel continues Richard Sharpe's Indian service in 1803, during the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Now a sergeant, Sharpe is attached to Wellesley's army as it moves against the forces of Scindia and the European-trained battalions of the renegade Colonel Pohlmann. A massacre of British officers, a hunt for the man responsible, and the approach of the Battle of Assaye drive the plot. McCandless, the political officer, and Hakeswill again cross Sharpe's path. The book is a campaign novel of reconnaissance and a set-piece battle, not a general history of British India.
