First published in 1910, this sequel to Puck of Pook's Hill again brings the children Dan and Una to Puck on a Sussex farm. Puck presents figures from English history and legend: a craftsman of the Armada year, a Tudor physician, a smuggler, Philadelphia and the young Washington, and others who tell how they worked or fought. Each tale is paired with poems. Recurring themes are craft, law, and the making of the English countryside. The book is a cycle of historical fantasies for children, not a continuous novel and not a school history.
