This pairing brings together two of Christie's crime novels in which a train is the scene or the witness of murder. In The Mystery of the Blue Train, first published in 1928, Hercule Poirot is drawn into the killing of a wealthy American woman on the luxury service toward the Riviera, among jewels, a faithless husband, and the cars of the train. In 4.50 from Paddington, first published in 1957, Miss Marple acts on a friend's glimpse of a strangling in a passing carriage and sends a housekeeper into a country house beside the line. The set is two independent investigations, not one serial plot.
