Published in 1952, this Blandings Castle novel turns on a contest between Lord Emsworth's prize sow, the Empress of Blandings, and Sir Gregory Parsloe's rival pig, the Queen of Matchingham. Galahad Threepwood, Beach the butler, and a set of young lovers - among them Penny Donaldson and Jerry Vail - become entangled in plots to move, hide, or slim the animals before the show. Lady Constance tries to keep the house respectable while imposture and pig-napping spread through the park. It is a country-house farce in which the fate of two pigs governs every engagement and alliance.
