First published in 1906, this tale, drawn from Barrie's earlier The Little White Bird, follows the infant Peter Pan, a seven-day-old who flies from his London nursery to Kensington Gardens and lives among birds and the Lock-Out Time fairies. He cannot quite become a bird and cannot quite return to his mother. Episodes involve the island in the Serpentine, Solomon Caw, the little house built for Maimie Mannering, and the graves of children who stayed out after lock-out. The book is a children's fantasy of the Gardens, not the later Neverland story about the Darling children.
