First issued in 1966, this collection gathers short James Bond stories. In the title piece, Bond visits a retired major in Jamaica whose wartime theft of Nazi gold is catching up with him. In The Living Daylights, Bond waits in Berlin to cover a defector and must shoot a Soviet sniper. Later editions add The Property of a Lady, an auction-house assignment involving a Faberge egg, and the brief 007 in New York. The pieces are independent Service jobs rather than a continuous novel. The book is a slim set of espionage tales, not a film novelization.
