By Malorie Blackman · 2021

Back to Catalogue
Synopsis

In an alternate Britain, dark-skinned Crosses are the ruling class and pale-skinned Noughts are the underclass, schooled separately and policed by a Cross state. Sephy Hadley, a Cross politician's daughter, and Callum McGregor, a Nought who has grown up beside her, try to keep a childhood friendship as he enters her school under a token scheme and as his family is drawn toward a Nought liberation group. Bombs, arrests, and a forbidden attachment force both households into public conflict. The novel is a young-adult fable of race and power told through the two teenagers.
