Synopsis

Case, a washed-up console cowboy in Chiba City, is hired by the ex-military operative Armitage and the razor-fingered street samurai Molly to take on a job that leads from the Boston-Atlanta Sprawl to a corporate fortress in orbit. Their employer is not quite human: an artificial intelligence split under tight legal limits, working through the entities Wintermute and Neuromancer. Hackers, a dead man's construct, and a Rastafarian tug crew become tools in a struggle over whether the AIs may fuse. The novel is science fiction about data, flesh, and corporate power.
