In contemporary Herefordshire, the dying George Huxley leaves his sons Steven and Christian a house on the edge of Ryhope Wood, an ancient remnant that generates mythagos: beings formed from human memory and from the forest's own deep time. After their father's death the brothers enter the wood and find it larger inside than out. Christian becomes obsessed with the mythago Guiwenneth; Steven follows, meeting guides, hunters, and older layers of story as the wood reshapes itself. The novel treats the forest as a living archive of legend rather than a conventional fantasy kingdom. It is a psychological quest romance, not a retelling of a single Arthurian cycle.
