Synopsis

This novel is set in the mountains of Colorado, where popular novelist Paul Sheldon drives off the road after finishing a manuscript that kills off his long-running heroine, Misery Chastain. He wakes in the house of Annie Wilkes, a former nurse and his most devoted reader, who holds him with broken legs, pills, and a typewriter. She forces him to burn the new book and to write Misery back into life, while weather, a sheriff's search, and Annie's rages close the house in. The book is a captivity thriller about authorship and obsession, not a supernatural tale.
