This anthology gathers Marvel comic-book stories from the 1960s and the years just after, when the company rebuilt its line around flawed heroes in a shared New York. Pieces introduce or develop the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, the X-Men, Daredevil, and the Avengers, often in the first tellings of their origins and early feuds. The art and dialogue follow the monthly serial style of the time. The volume is a survey of that rebuilding, sometimes issued with a replica of Fantastic Four No. 1, not a continuous novel. It samples a publishing era rather than one character's career.
