This anthology collects comic-book stories about Peter Parker, a New York student who gains the abilities of a spider and learns that a failure to act can cost a life. Early tales set him against street criminals, newspaper work at the Daily Bugle, and the need to support his aunt; later selections follow him through changing costumes, partners, and city-wide threats. The pieces come from several decades of monthly publication and several creative teams. The book is a guided sampling of a long-running serial about a young man balancing private trouble with public heroics, not a single plotted graphic novel.
