This second set collects three further Maigret novels from the 1950s and 1960. In one, the inspector is called into a closed aristocratic household after an old count is found dead, and he has to read a world of retainers and faded titles that does not trust the police. In another, a man is killing women in the same Paris district, and Maigret uses a public trap and a study of similar lives to force a pattern into the open. In the third, the death of a young woman connected to a celebrated surgeon pulls Maigret into a fashionable medical circle and an error about who holds power there. All three are psychological investigations in mid-century Paris.
